On Tuesday and Wednesday morning, two protests were staged in front of Orumieh’s Public Prosecutor’s office and Prison.
According to reports, on Tuesday morning, over 300 family members of prisoners on death row, while holding Quran’s in hand, gathered in front of the Orumieh Prosecutor’s office and called for the cancelation of their prisoners’ death sentences. Also, on Wednesday morning, following the implementation of the death sentence of a prisoner by the name of Farhad Tarom in the Orumieh Central Prison, his family, along with other relatives, gathered in front of the Orumieh Prison and subsequent to hearing the news of his execution, initiated in shattering the outside windows of the Orumieh Prison. With the intervention of security forces, at least 10 people were detained.
The charges of this prisoner, announced by the judicial system, were drug possession.
It is worth noting that following the implementation of the new law in regard to possessing industrial drugs, many prisoners are facing death sentences.
The Census Center of the Human Rights Activists of Iran has identified over 300 prisoners in the Orumieh Prison who are on death row awaiting the implementation of their verdict.
