Tehran Students Protest Ahmadinejad Visit

As my colleague Nazila Fathi explains, a surprise visit to the campus of Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran on Monday by Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, reportedly set off a protest by students. Jaras, an opposition Web site, posted a report with what it said was a slide show of photographs from the campus.

Video of protesters, also apparently shot on Monday, was uploaded to several YouTube channels. This clip, discovered by the Iranian-American Web site Tehran Bureau, seems to show clashes between students chanting “Azadi!” (which means, “Freedom!”) and the security forces:

Golnaz Esfandiar, a blogger for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, which is financed by the American government, reported that in this video, also apparently shot during the demonstration, the students chanted: “Today is a day of mourning. Ahmadinejad, the liar, is our guest today.”
