The theatrical meeting of retired workers at the Association of Retired Workers was disrupted today, Monday, May 11 after the frustrated retired workers booed the officials and said none of their pledges have been fulfilled. They each started to speak out telling their stories and frustrations of not getting any answer from the government, despite earlier pledges.
One of the retired workers shouted that he would set himself a blaze if the government keeps ignoring their plight. Another frustrated worker complained of what he called “empty promises” of the government agencies in keeping up with their responsibilities toward these workers and said all he and other have heard from the government has been lies and empty promises. The third one said when the official poverty line is at 3 million tomans, a %15 increase in our pension is like adding salt to our wounds. It is torture not remedy.
As the protest and complains took momentum, the authorities who didn’t expect to see their stage meeting turn in to a demonstration, tried to wrap up the meeting as soon as possible and leave the meeting.
