Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir rejected criticism raised by Iran regarding the Mecca stampede incident in which 769 people, including more than 130 Iranian pilgrims, lost their lives, Al Arabiya TV reported on Sunday. The top Saudi diplomat said Iran is seeking to take political advantage of the Hajj incident.
In a meeting with his American counterpart he said the King of Saudi Arabia has issued orders for extensive and transparent investigations in this regard. However, it would be better for Tehran officials to not take political advantage of a catastrophe in which innocent lives were lost during religious rituals, he added.
