Iran’s minister of industry and mines revealed rival factions inside the regime import goods at reference currency rates, yet sell them at market rate currency prices, gaining billions of dollars in profits in the process.
“Based on defined priorities, basic goods and medicine were provided currency at reference rates,” Ghazanfari said. “However, some importers took advantage of this and sold the product at rates equal to 30,000 rials against the dollar.”
It is worth noting that the main importers of goods in Iran are the Revolutionary Guards. Prior to this Ahmadinejad had said the IRGC has set up private piers in the country’s southern shores for its own imports.
