Protest gathering of pensioners in Tehran, Mashhad

Iran, September 16, 2017 – Retired Iranian Army officers gathered on Saturday, September 16 in front of the President Rouhani’s office in the capital Tehran demanding a pay raise to match the increase in the overall expenditure. They chanted anti-government slogans saying that they have lost hope in the government’s plans and solutions.

Some retired army personnel on June 18, 2016 had gathered in front of the Organization of planning and budget in Tehran calling for fixing their salaries which had remained unchanged in a decade.

On Saturday, September 16, 2017 dozens of retired military and civilian personnel in the northeastern city of Mashhad rallied outside the local governorate office. They were carrying posters and placards with slogans written on them.
Some of the lines on the posters read: “we will remain steadfast until our demands are met”, “Discrimination! For how long?”, “Replace the discrimination with law and justice”.
