Over 1,000 inmates launch hunger strike protesting mass executions in Ghezel Hesar Prison

HRANA, 25 Nov 2013 – Based on incoming reports, following the transfer of at least 11 inmates to solitary confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison in preparations to carry out their executions, over 1,000 inmates in this prison have launched a hunger strike protesting such mass executions. On Monday, November 25th, 11 inmates from halls 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 were transferred to the facility’s solitary confinement for their executions.
On the other hand, the families of these inmates had gathered all day long outside the facility, demanding the execution of these 11 inmates and others on death row to be halted. The regime’s prison authorities lied to the families in saying the 11 inmates were returned to their cells and their death sentences had been delayed, in order to disperse the family members. The verdicts of most of these inmates were issued by mullah Mohammad Moghise, head of the 28th branch of Tehran’s so-called revolution court.
