On March 4, the CNN reporter from Tehran said that the Ahmadinejad’s trip to Baghdad did not gain him any important outcome. Ahmadinejad wanted to use the visit and its symbolic ceremonies to give signal to the West, how closely two countries are working together and how dominating Shiite government has close ties with Iran. Ahmadinejad held four press conferences during his visit which lasted a day and half and not any important agreement was announced except insisting on good relations. The message was to the west rather than back home because of the election ahead. Some in Iran look at the election as a referendum for him. Critics say he used the visit to overcome his rivals’ criticism about ill economy of Iran. The Iranians say wouldn’t be better to spend some of the hundreds of million dollars devoted for Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah at home for improving Iran’s economy.
