CBS TV website cited General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff saying it is his responsibility to analyze and evaluate the various potential risks of a military option against the Iranian regime to annihilate the mullahs’ nuclear capability.
In an interview with CBS’ Face the Nation, in response to a question that does the Iranian regime have the capability to actually block off the Strait of Hormuz waterway which is vital to the transfer to nearly 15 million barrels of oil every day, Dempsey said, “They’ve invested in capabilities that could in fact for a period of time block the Strait of Hormuz. We’ve invested in capabilities to ensure if that happens we can defeat that. And so, the simple answer is yes they can block it. Of course, that is as well, we’ve described that as an intolerable act and it’s not just intolerable for us, it is intolerable to the world. But we would take action and reopen the strait.”
