The protest gathering and strike held by workers and employees of Andimeshk municipality in southwest Iran began on March 17th and continued into the next day. The workers gathered outside the municipality office again in the afternoon of that day. In the evening of Friday, March 18th instead of responding to the striking workers and employees who only sought their rights, elements of the notorious Ministry of Intelligence attacked the workers, resulting in 20 arrests in an attempt to cement a climate of fear amongst the protesters.
It is worth noting that these angry workers and various municipality contractors have not received their salaries for a year now. A number of these workers continue to seek pensions and other paychecks for nearly two years now. Iranian regime elements continue to refrain from addressing the workers’ demands.
