Iran’s presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi has warned against interference by the Revolutionary Guards and Basij militia in Today’s election, reported AFP on June 12, the election day in Iran .
’There are testimonies of some commanders and officials of Basij and the Guards interfering in the election,’ Mousavi said in a letter to the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, carried on his campaign website.
’It seems that this act, if the report is right, both violates the law and exacerbates the rift between formal commanders and officials and the honest and clean body of the Basij and the Guards forces,’ he said.
’The possibility of changing people’s vote is troubling minds as we do not know the extent of such illegal acts and some polling officials and watchdogs have been selected from supporters of their certain candidate.’
AFP added in its report: It is not the first time Iran’s ideological elite army the Guards and their undergrowth volunteer forces of Basij have been accused of seeking to influence the elections.
