Leishmaniases spreads in western Iranian city

The state-run Keyhan daily reported the spread of a peripatetic disease, known as Leishmaniases or oriental boil (furunculous oreintalis), in the western Iranian city of Dehloran in Ilam Province. Vast amounts of trash and construction debris in this city has led to the spread of this infectious disease and 402 residents were inflicted with this illness last year.
According to hygiene experts, lack of control over the amount of trash has led to an increasing number of stray cats and dogs across the city, which can lead to the spread of infectious and parasite diseases. The existence of food stuffs, adequate shelters, moisture and suitable conditions in city trash dumps will lead to the vast reproduction of rodents, which itself will cause the spread of dangerous diseases such as furunculous oreintalis. This illness has become a local disease in the city of Dehloran.
The mosquito that carries this disease begins its activities in the first three months of the year, and symptoms of this disease are seen in those who are ill in the months of October and November.
It is worth noting an estimated average of 35 tons of garbage is produced around this city everyday. The lack of proper burial and recycling, and homeless people wandering in the dumps and fires in trash sites all play important roles in the spread of this illness.
