Isfahan Province Governor Fazlollah Kafil said the “Gavkhuni” lagoon has been facing water shortages for years and is currently being destroyed.
The lagoon drying up is a threat for the health of those living in central Iran all the way up to Tehran Province in the north, the governor added.
The Gavkhuni lagoon has an area of around 476,000 square kilometers located 140 kilometers southeast of Isfahan.
