
The Iraqi Azzaman daily published a report saying 24 Revolutionary Guards members have been killed in Iraq. Citing a website affiliated to former IRGC chief Mohsen Rezaie (current Secretary of the Iranian regime’s Expediency Council), this report states 4 IRGC officers are amongst those killed in clashes north of Samarra and west of Baghdad. This daily also quoted informed sources in the Iraqi Army headquarters saying, “Iran’s embassy in Baghdad is responsible for supervising the transfer of the dead IRGC members’ bodies back to Iran.
These same sources close to the Iraqi Army headquarters added, “These 24 IRGC members were dispatched to Baghdad along with a number of other forces. The bodies of the dead IRGC members were transferred to Iran at the presence of various Maliki’s government officials and Iran’s ambassador in Baghdad.”
According to this report a number of these individuals were killed in the Rezvaniye district of Baghdad’s beltway area. According to this daily 4 IRGC officers were killed when a mine placed in their path exploded.
