Iran’s regime neither can nor will resolve workers’ dilemmas

2, May 2018— Following the arrest of a number of Iranian labor activists on Labor Day (Monday, May 1st), and considering the fact that their lives are in grave danger, a variety of activists across the country are seeking information about their whereabouts.

As the effort continues, it is known that individuals arrested during anti-government demonstrations are routinely transferred to Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison or detention centers directly linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Intelligence Department.

Fortunately, as PMOI/MEK activists and internet users increase their effort inside Iran and across the globe, especially in the United Nations and linked entities, such as Amnesty International, international human rights organizations are more frequently and quickly informed about the identity of those arrested and human rights violations against the Iranian people in general.

Iran’s own parliament has acknowledged the arrest of numerous demonstrators and skirmishes erupting between Iranian workers and IRGC Basij members.

Interesting is the fact that the very social class that Iran’s regime considered its popular base, being the poor lower branch of society, is now revolting against the ruling elite and their crackdown apparatus. This sector of Iran’s society is completely turning against the mullahs’ theocracy, posing a clear and present danger for all regime entities and especially the repressive units.

Iran’s workers literally have nothing to lose since all Iranian workers are living in poverty and their official minimum wage is one-fourth of the poverty line. This counts to 12 million Iranian workers living under the poverty line.

Iran’s own Tasnim news agency, affiliated to the IRGC Quds Force, has reported over 50 million of the country’s 80 million populace lives under the poverty line. This proves the fact that the mullahs’ regime neither has the intention nor the will to respond to the demands raised by Iran’s workers.

As emphasized by Iranian opposition leader Maryam Rajavi in her Labor Day speech, the Iranian regime cannot resolve this crisis and for the very reason that all their efforts must focus on regime change in Iran. As long as this regime is in power, Iran’s workers will continue to suffer, she added.
