Iranians bitter as 30 million live below poverty line

Riyadh Daily, 14 January 2018 – Iranians are bitterly disappointed over the failure of the nuclear agreement, as the change that the deal was expected to result in has not happened.
Going by the Iranian government’s own statistics, the overall unemployment rate has reached 20 percent, while in some provinces it has reached as high as 60 percent. Moreover, there are 30 million people below the poverty line. These conditions are worse than they were before the nuclear agreement.
This is what prompted the Iranians to go out and protest against the miserable conditions the Iranian regime had led them to over the past years.
The Iranians protested the squandering of funds retrieved after the nuclear agreement on militant groups in neighboring countries with the aim of destabilizing the region.
The Iranians were hopeful of their economic conditions improving as the agreement would help lift the sanctions. In press remarks, they lamented that their income remained the same while prices of goods had increased.
“We have not seen the nuclear agreement making any positive impact. Inflation is increasing day by day, as well as economic stagnation and unemployment. These are problems that still exist,” said a disappointed citizen.
