NCRI, 11 July 2010 – A senior Iranian regime official has once again defended the barbaric and medieval punishment by stoning in a brazen reaction to widespread international condemnation against the punishment by the clerical regime.
Mohammed Javad Larijani, head of the so-called human rights council of the Iranian regime’s judiciary and a theoretician of the faction tied to the mullahs’ Supreme Leader, said, “This punishment has been enshrined in the establishment’s constitution.”
Larijani reaffirmed the inhumane stoning of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, and said, “Her case went through the natural multi-year process and was reviewed with care. In the context of the proceedings, there are no ambiguities.”
He added, “Her case went through a long process to the extent that initially she was sentenced to 90 lashes and later to stoning by another court. The campaign initiated by the West in this regard has no bearing on our judges’ opinions.”
The regime’s plan to stone Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani provoked widespread condemnation around the world and focused attention on the regime’s barbaric practice once again.
Faced with continuing protests by the Iranian people and especially women, the Iranian regime seeks to intensify fear among the population in order to curb protests.
Displaying the mullahs’ usual demagoguery, Larijani equated the theocracy’s crimes with Islamic laws, saying, “Our judges hand down their sentences on the basis of the law and we expect the law to be implemented in an exact sense. We want them to go through the proceedings with utter care.”
Hundreds of Iranian exiles have staged demonstrations in various countries to protest to the Iranian regime’s barbaric and medieval punishment by stoning.
