The Iraqi Muttahedoon coalition in the parliament called on other parliamentary groups, the government and Parliament to speak out against remarks made by an Iranian MP boasting of killing over 600 Iraqi prisoners of war back in the 1980s, the Iraqi “NINA” news agency reported on March 8th.
“In remarks made on February 5th Iranian MP Nader Ghazipour said he had killed 600 to 700 Iraqi POWs during the Iran-Iraq War because of Islam, revolution and the martyrs,” the statement issued by the Muttahedoon coalition reads in part.
“Ghazipour is not an ordinary citizen, nor just a soldier or member of the Revolutionary Guards who has gone crazy and committed this crime of killing hundreds of human beings, and standing proud amongst his cheering supporters. This is a blow to true Islam, religious values, laws and principles.”
“What difference is there between this criminal and Daesh (using the Arabic acronym for the self-proclaimed Islamic State)? Are his measures not more vicious and misleading than Daesh’s crimes? Of course, Daesh criminals are not members of parliament. They are just criminals wanted by all forces of good and supporters of justice,” the Muttahedoon coalition statement continued.
“We are shocked because of such remarks and actions, and call on the international community, international courts and human rights organizations to take serious action to hand him over to justice for his widespread mass killings. Urgent action must be taken against him regarding his remarks,” the statement added.
“We call on the Iraqi people, being against cruelty and defending the right, to condemn this criminal in their demonstrations… The Iraqi Council of Representatives faces a grave responsibility to take action to regain the trust of the families of martyrs killed at the hands of this criminal.”
