Iranian Day of Students: protests and clashes in different Universities in Tehran

Tehran University: Students at Tehran University chanted “death to the dictator” and “free political prisoners.” They also chanted slogans against the University president Farhad Rahbra, a government appointed official. They chanted “Farhad Rahbar must be evicted.” This was despite tight security measures to stave off any dissent.

Melli University: According to independent and informed sources, students rallying outside the amphitheater of Melli University where President Rouhani was giving a speech on the occasion of the “Student’s Day” clashed with the Basij militias. The anti-government students chanted “Free political prisoners” and “lying Basijis, where is your student IDs” implying that those inside the amphitheater were not true students. Clashes continued hours after Rouhani left the University.

Sharif-Industrial University: Angry Students at Sharif-industrial University in Tehran chanted “revenge for the blood of my brothers”, implicating those students killed during 2009 general uprising in Iran.

Tehran Poly-Technic University: Clashes also erupted at Tehran Poly-Technic University between students and the Basij militias when hundreds of students marking the “Student’s Day” chanted anti-government slogans. The paramilitary basij tried to disperse the crowd, but students resisted and clashes erupted.
