Prisoners in Zahedan central prison on Wednesday, Feb. 1st protested the merger of two prison wards in to one ward which would create an onerous hard and inhuman condition for them in the prison.
The anti-riot guards stormed the protesting prisoners which lasted several hours. Reports indicate that more than 40 people were injured.
It is said that special unit guards attempted to control protesters using tear gas and firing in the air. It has also been reported that military helicopters flew over the prison. One of the wounded prisoners was identified as Ahmad Naroui, 23-year-old.
The special anti-riot guards moved a large number of protesting prisoners to the solitary confinement known as Zahedan prison torture chamber.
It is worth mentioning that Ward one is known as the Youth Ward and Ward 2 known as the Juvenile Ward. Prisoners who were transferred from Ward One to Ward Two did not have any place to rest and even the hallways were full and didn’t have any place for them to rest. The toilets and bathrooms are not sufficient for the prisoners and the health condition in the prison is catastrophic.
Following the evacuation of Ward one of Zahedan Central Prison, the ward has been released to the IRGC for holding parties and ceremonies, the report says.
