Iran: World Islamic Religions Access Association voices protests

The World Islamic Religions Access Association denounced the destruction of a Sunni sanctuary in Tehran, describing this measure as ‘against the interest of the Islamic society’. The Sunni sanctuary was located in Tehran’s Ponak neighborhood in the northwestern area of the Iranian capital. On Wednesday, July 29 dozens of municipality agents, backed by security forces, went to the site and destroyed the building.
Molana Abdulhamid Ismeel Zehi, Friday prayer leader in Zahedan, Molavi Abdulsamad Sadati, Friday prayer leader in Saravan, and Molana Habib al-Rahman Mottahari, director of the Ahnaf Khaf theological center issued a joint statement and separate letters describing this measure in contrast to the promises provided by the government to the Sunni community and demanded “urgent action” in this regard.
