Atena Daemi, a civil activist jailed in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison, is reported to be in dire physical conditions and suffering from an illness suspicious of being MS.
“She was healthy when they took her to prison, but is now suffering from this illness while behind bars,” said an informed source about the conditions of this civil activist. Each time this prisoner’s family went to prison to visit her she would speak about one of her illnesses with her family, the source added.
After images of her transfer to a hospital were published by the media, this activist was no longer allowed to go to a hospital, the source continued. Security officials told her family, “You have crossed a red line and we will no longer allow her to go.”
This source went on to refer to signs such as “constant headaches, significant loss in weight, eyesight disorder, bone pains, pains in her arms and legs” and added, “All signs indicate this political prisoner is suffering from MS.”
Atena Daemi, 27, was arrested on October 21, 2014 and spent 57 days in solitary confinement and under interrogation. She has been sentenced to 14 years in prison due to her peaceful civil activities, propaganda against the system, assembly and collusion against national security, insulting the leader and hiding evidence of her crime.
