Iran: Women, mothers, babies at Evin prison in dire conditions

NCRI, 07 October 2010 – The Iranian regime has placed female inmates at the notorious Evin Prison in ‎Tehran in appalling conditions and imposes an array of additional restrictions, according ‎to obtained reports.‎
A number of toddlers and children under the age of 2 are also believed to live at the ‎Women’s Ward with their mothers.‎
The prison’s Ward 2 has no drinking water, leading to health hazards for the mothers and ‎their babies. The Ward is supplied with water pumped from wells dug out in the prison ‎itself, and does not meet health standards. Some political and regular prisoners are now ‎facing severe kidney infections.‎
About 20 female political prisoners are being held at Evin’s Women’s Ward. 32 female ‎prisoners are on death row and may be executed at any moment. Their ages range from 18 ‎to 47, with some of them spending the last 15 years of their lives behind bars faced with ‎death sentences.‎
