Iran: The growing number of prisoners and lack of sufficient space

Iran, Tehran, March 26, 2018 – A member of the Iranian regime Majlis (parliament) suggested that due to the ever-increasing number of prisoners and the lack of space to house them, the regime must start thinking of constructing new prisons in the coming year.
Kazemi, member of the parliament’s judiciary committee said considering the growing number of prisoners, there is not enough space to house them and the current buildings are insufficient. Therefore, there should be a plan for relocation and transferring of the prisoners to new prisons and facilities built outside the city.
The mullahs’ regime MP added that the notorious Evin Prison does not have sufficient capacity for the huge number of prisoners, we can sell the Evin property and build many new prisons outside the city to relocate the current prisoners from Evin. But he added that first we must think about the situation of prisons in other cities in the country, there are more urgent needs for new prisons in other cities with respect to the capital.
