
Tabriz Central Prison in northwestern Iran witnessed a number of inmates rioting on Tuesday, September 8th, protesting inhumane conditions and unbearable pressures, incoming reports indicate.
Clashes erupted between inmates and the special prison guards as the riot spread and prisoners began setting various items on fire.
The entire ward #7 of this prison was engulfed in flames as a result of these clashes as dozens of prisoners suffered severe burns and were transferred to hospitals.
Special guards resorted to opening direct gunfire in an attempt to quell the protesting prisoners. Some reports indicate a number of prisoners lost their lives.
