-Ali Asghar Jahangir, head of Iran’s Prisons Organization denied having any political prisoners in the entire country.
“In our country there are no political prisoners as defined in other prisons across the globe,” he said.
“We have a small number of security prisoners, meaning people who have endangered the country’s security and issues such as making the society insecure, anarchy and anti-security matters. Although, the number of these prisoners are very low!” Jahangir added.
“Those individuals who launch hunger strikes at times are taking advantage of this matter and are mainly individuals who are seeking media coverage and to instigate propaganda for their own purposes,” Jahangir added.
These absurd claims comes at a time when many international human rights organizations including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch insist that Iran regime continues to hold dozens of political prisoners. Iran is also rated one of the worst countries as far as having prisoners of conscious, holds many bloggers for posting simple critical issues as well as religious minorities and other activists.
Just recently Iran freed four Americans held hostages for a number of years including Iranian American pastor Saied Abedini whose only crime was to convert from Islam to Christianity.
