According to the family of Mohammad Ali Taheri his hunger strike has entered its 43rd day on Thursday in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison. Based on information received from inside Iran, the health conditions of Mr. Taheri are very poor and prison authorities are neglecting his deteriorating health. Amnesty International had reported a few weeks ago how Mr. Taheri was threatened to death by his interrogators.
“My brother is a prisoner of conscience. There are those, however, who are seeking to make the entire case political,” said Azardokht Taheri, the sister of Mohammad Ali Taheri.
Ahmad Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran had called for the suspension of the death sentence issued for this prisoner of conscience.
