Political prisoner Mansour Arvand, detained in Urumieh Cebntral Prison, was recently summoned by prison officials and transferred to an unknown location. On the morning of Saturday, June 21st, this Kurdish political prisoner was taken away and according to his cellmates he has probably been transferred to a detention center of a security institution.
It is worth noting that the family of this Kurd political prisoner had said some time ago that a death sentence issued against him was recently downgraded to life in prison. He has been charged with having connections with a Kurdistan party, first accused of carrying out armed attacks – which he never accepted – and then his death sentence was turned down.
According to his cellmates he remains on death row and his family was forced by the local intelligence bureau to publish such rumors. His cellmates believe Arvand will probably be executed after this suspicious transfer.
Arvand was arrested in the summer of 2011 and accused of ‘moharebe’ (enmity against God) through cooperation with Kurdish parties, and later condemned to death.
