Iran officials fear Khamenei will fall after Assad

The Kuwaiti daily Al-Seyassah published a report on Iran Majlis (parliament) speaker’s regional tour, saying Iranian officials fear the price of Assad’s overthrow will be the toppling of Khamenei.
High profile figures in Maliki’s Al-Dawa Party in Iraq revealed to Al-Seyassah that Ali Larijani’s trip to Damascus and his meeting with Bashar Assad, under the framework of his regional trip including to Turkey and Lebanon, reached one single conclusion: there is no hope for Assad remaining in power.
In his meetings and discussions with Iraqi religious and political leaders, Larijani expressed much dismay regarding the status of Assad’s forces on the ground and admitted all military indications prove that, in contrast to the beliefs of various Iranian officials who met with Assad during the past two months, the Syrian regime overthrow has become imminent.
Various Revolutionary Guards commanders have informed Khamenei serious dangers will erupt if Tehran takes measures for direct military intervention in Syria to save Assad, and this will be intolerable for Tehran, Al-Seyassah wrote.
According to Iraqi circles close to the Iranian regime, IRGC commanders in their report have told Khamenei more than 50% of the forces dispatched from Iran to Syria will be annihilated in less than one month. These Iraqi figures reiterated Iran is facing a serious political division in Syria, which facilitates instigating the people against Khamenei. Iraqi circles have said Iran’s leadership is very hesitant on any decision regarding military intervention in Syria, and numerous officials of this regime fear the price of Assad’s overthrow will be Khamenei’s toppling.
