Hossein Sajedi-Nia, head of the Tehran police said 272 Internet cafes in Tehran alone have been closed.
“Tehran police are implementing a plan to confront unpermitted Internet cafes, and as a result 272 such stores have been closed due to the owners violating regulations. 847 other Internet cafes have received warnings,” he said on Sunday, September 6th.
“From late March of this year FATA police (monitoring Internet use in Iran) have inspected 5,280 Internet cafes along with another police branch in the Greater Tehran district,” he said.
These repressive measures reveal the mullahs’ fear of more and more Iranians, especially the youth, resorting to the Internet and social media.
