Iran: Military drills against labor protests

At a time when the number of protests and sit-ins staged by workers across various cities of Iran are climing, the Revolutionary Guards and Bassij paramilitary forces in the city of Kalale in Golestan Province, northern Iran, held military drills to take action against protesting laborers.
The Bassij-associated “Beit al-Moghadas” battalions linked to the Bassij in Golestan Province held these maneuvers.
The “Beit al-Moghadas” battalions are considered the military wings of the Bassij. IRGC command has announced these units were formed after the controversial 2009 elections in Iran, consisting of 6,000 “Ashura” and “Al-Zahra” battalions.
The most important duty of these military battalions is to confront street protests.
