Following the closure of Azerbaijan Steel Factory closure and uncertain future of some 500 workers, all employees and personnel working in this factory demonstrated on Wednesday Feb. 18 to protest job uncertainty and their layoffs.
“No one is accepting responsibility. We don’t know who is going to pay us ours wages or New Year bonuses. We have been working here many years, but all of the sudden we are laid off and left in the cold, especially close to the New Year. Some officials are planning to plunder by announcing bankruptcy so they can borrow money from bank. This company is worth 700 billion tomans, but they are going to sell it off 300 billion tomans only,” said a protesting worker.
“This has created crisis for the workers,” he added saying that they all have gone to the authorities to explain their situation, but no one is taking any responsibility to answer to the grievances.
