Tehran chief of police and security forces said his men have closed down 272 coffee shops with internet access in the capital.
Hossein Sajedi-nia said on Sunday that these coffee shops are among hundreds of shops who have already been searched and that the search will continue to find other shops who are in violation of giving internet services to their customers. 847 coffee shops have also been warned of being closed.
“From the beginning of this year the cyber police in conjunction with Tehran Security Forces have made more than 5,280 inspections of Coffee-nets, just in Tehran alone,” Sajedi-nia said.
Analysts say these repressive measures are the result of the mullahs’ regime growing fear of unrest and dissent in the country by the people and especially the youth and smart Iranian internet savvies.
