
British-Iranian grad student, Miss Goncheh Ghavami has been on hunger strike since Nov. 1st in protest to her being held despite her temporary detention been over, and also in protest to illegal postponement of issuing verdict by the court. She was transferred to women prison in Qarechack- Varamin last week. She has been held on temporary detention basis for past 130 days. And the court have not issue a verdict yet…
Miss Ghavami was placed in a solitary on Wednesday for 3 days and she was sent to one of the wards, following a visit by her mother.
World Volleyball Federation, WVF, has been pressing the Iranian regime to free Goncheh and to adhere to its pledge to allow women in sport stadiums. As a first step to put pressure on Iran, the Federation has denied Iran hosting Youth World Cup. WVF has also threated to reject Iran’s hosting of the World League all together if this country did not respond positively.
Qarechack- Varamin Prison which is located in central Iran, is housing 1200 women prisoners who are accused of a verity of crimes. There are also a number of political prisoners kept in deplorable condition. This prison is compared with one of most notorious prions in the country.
