“Today the work on a large portion of Reyhaneh’s grave was done. Her grave is carpeted with colorful flowers. Two white pieces of stones have been placed on the grave to give the flowers identity… Her birthday memorial is over and I am slowly regaining my life.
“Sarbandi and his friends who prepared the ground and actually carried out Reyhaneh’s execution must know that I will regain my strength soon, my injured heart will be healed, the tremble in my voice would dissipate, the chocking anger will eventually burst in to tears and my voice would be heard again. As if I am on a stage, my voice must be heard by the last person in the audience, and it will. I taught speech for years and during the 7 difficult years of Reyhaneh’s incarceration, I learned everything about how to defend her. I asked so many questions until I learned everything about what happened that day.
“Immediately after regaining my strength, I will shout ’Reyhaneh was innocent.’ You killed an innocent girl. She had high hopes. She was a brilliant young girl and only tried to defend herself and her honor against a sexual assault. The accident wasn’t a premeditated murder as you insisted, but only to escape the claws of an aggressor. She called an ambulance right after her escape, but the ambulance reached the scene at 7 PM, this was corroborated by the police. The victims’ son was seen in the house at half past 8 PM, meaning the ambulance had come and left without the victim. Somebody has to translate this for me, how could this happen?
“Millions of people have written to me and expressed their solidarity with me on the 27th birthday of Reyhaneh. I wish I could answer all those letters. But by writing this I express my deep gratitude and thanks to all those who supported me, who stood up on the bitter night of execution and cried for her and all those who honored her memory on her birthday.
“Reyhaneh! I swear to the day you were born, to your free and happy spirit, to your intelligence, to the strong bond between us, to your sweet smiles and to my everlasting love for you that … I will find every one of those who did injustice to you and one day the justice will prevail and would be served. You must believe me, now you can sleep quietly. You gave your life for righteousness…”
