Iran: Five executed in group in southeastern city prison

Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran Website, 6 Oct 2012 – Based on reports received by the “Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran”, five inmates were hanged in group in the southeastern city of Zahedan.
These inmates were from Wards 2, 3 and 6 of Zahedan Prison, one of them being from the city of Bukan whose brother was also executed 12 years ago in Urumieh Prison (northwestern Iran) on charges of membership in the Kumele Party.
These five detainees were transferred to solitary confinement last Thursday. Three of the five were between 60 to 65 years of age. The names of the executed were:
1- Hassan Mohammadi, 45, from Bukan, imprisoned for nearly two nears in Ward 2 of Zahedan Prison.
2- Nezam Islami, 65, imprisoner for over four years in Ward 3 of Zahedan Prison.
3. Hadi Turi, 60, from Zabul – imprisoned in Ward 3 of Zahedan Prison.
4. Mahmoud Zerehpoush, 63, imprisoned in Ward 3 of Zahedan Prison.
5. Eghbal Chuzati, 45, from Zabol, imprisoned for three years in Ward 6 of Zahedan Prison.
These prisoners were all hanged on drug related charges.
These executions took place only two days after widespread popular protests in Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz and other cities in an attempt to create a climate of fear.
