A group of farmers form the towns of Mohammad Shahr, Hashtgerd, Mehrshahr and the Karaj Ghezel Hesar area in Alborz Province (west of Tehran), rallied outside the governorate office due to continuous water shortages and cut-offs. This rally was staged at 9 am on Monday, August 3rd.
According to these protesters the people’s water is cut-off in numerous hours of the day and the farmers had to resort to using tankers and water from wells to provide for their lands. This has enforced heavy costs to the farmers and it is not a very certain and guaranteed source of water. Much of these farmers’ crops have been destroyed due to these problems.
