IRAN, July 23, 2017— City workers from all 8 districts of Ahwaz, southern Iran, demonstrated on Sunday, July 23, 2017, in an extremely hot day and for the second day in the row. The demonstration, taking place in front of the governorate office of Ahwaz, called for the change of their working status. They demanded to be hired by the government institutions rather than being hired by private firms.
One protesting worker said that they have been working more than 16 years, but their working status has not changed and they are still considered as part time workers. This situation has kept our salaries with a large family to feed, about the same when we were hired.
