Iran, Babol: Student’s gathering on the occasion of “Day of Student”

Students of Babol-Nushirvani University, northern Iran staged a protest gathering on Sunday, December 7, 2014 which coincides with the “Student’s Day” in Iran. University security guards, known as ’Harasat’ tried to break up the gathering, but the students persisted and booed the Harasat paramilitaries. They also sang a familiar song and well recognized and cherished by progressive students titled “school friend.”
The protesting students were carrying placards in support of political prisoners. Some placards read: “How you are going to stop new tree scions from blooming?” and “university is not a military base” and “students are ready to die, but not to accept abjectness”.
“Student daya” are held annually in Iran to commemorate the memory of 3 students who were killed during a peaceful demonstration on December 7, 1953 by the security police. Students throughout Iran hold annual gatherings on this day to remember those students. In recent years this demonstration has turned to anti-mullahs’ regime protest.
