During the past few days Special Anti-Riot Guard units of Urumiyeh Prison in northwestern Iran have raided the political prisoners’ ward and harassed the inmates. They transferred prisoners out of their ward and thus looted and destroyed their personal belongings. The objective of these raids is to gather the ethnic clothing of Kurdish political prisoners in this facility. From October 15th, officials at this prison have announced to the political prisoners they are no longer allowed to use ethnic Kurdish clothing. The recent raids began after the announcement of this new repressive measure by the mullahs’ regime. All of the Kurdish clothes belonging to political prisoners have been gathered, along with handwritings, memoirs and other personal items of political prisoners. Forty anti-riot guard forces took part in the most recent raid that took place at 11 am and lasted for at least a few hours.
