Intense disputes between Khamenei and Rafsanjani over supreme power

While twenty years ago Rafsanjani laid the grounds for Khamenei to gain power in the regime’s so-called ‘Assembly of Experts’, today forces close to the Iranian regime’s religious leader are increasingly concerned over Rafsanjani’s increasing power in this assembly, Radio France International reported.
Recent remarks made by Guardian Council chief Ahmad Jannati is a sign of increasing political disputes amongst the most senior Iranian regime officials.
Political circles close to Khamenei believe Rouhani’s government and elements close to Rafsanjani are seeking to gain seats in the Majlis (parliament) and the Assembly of Experts. Furthermore, Khamenei’s  age and reports of his deteriorating health have intensified the importance of the Assembly of Experts elections.
