In its 4th day, Iran’s economic protests evolve politically

Analysis by PMOI/MEK

June 27, 2018 – Coming six months after the Dec/Jan uprising crippled the regime, Iran’s mullahs are struggling yet again to restore calm in the capital as shop owners across the famous Grand Bazaar and other branches continue their strike.

With the ruling mullahs spending billions in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon and… word amongst the people is that they are completely disconnected with the average Iranians’ concern.

With this round of protests beginning on Sunday, the regime’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was more concerned about the fate of the Iran nuclear deal, forecasting European countries would come to the regime’s rescue by presenting a package of economic support in the face of US sanctions in a matter of ten days.

His boss, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, expressed further concerns.

“We are all in one ship in Iran: principalists, reformists, non-partisan, and opponents of the Islamic Republic,” he said.

Interesting how there was no word of how to address the public’s concerns.

Protesters, however, are strongly criticizing senior officials, such as President Hassan Rouhani for traveling to a resort, while the country’s currency is nosediving day by day. Rouhani has also been recently accused of wearing expensive US brand clothing.

Sunday saw protesters in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar and outside of the parliament chanting and criticizing the regime’s incompetence and Iranian regime officials.

On Monday and Tuesday, many clashes were reported as protesters continue to voice their demands for regime change. One video on social media showed a truck emptying bricks for the protesters to use against riot police attacking their peaceful demonstrations.

Instead of providing solutions Rouhani began blaming foreign enemies on Tuesday and accusing the United States of waging an “economic war” against the regime. This has been a tactic used by the regime throughout the past 40 years.

As the regime’s concerns increase, Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi issued a message on June 25 aired on INTV hailing the brave protesters in Tehran and other cities and saying, “The liberation war in Tehran has escalated. The fire has reached the capital and will never be put out.”
