HURIWA: Iranian regime is meddling in Nigeria

HUMAN Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has criticised Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria,  Saeed Koozechi for unnecessarily interfering in the recent fracas between the Shiites Islamic movement and the Nigerian Army, ngrguardiannews.com reported on February 9, 2016.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, HURIWA’s leader, Emmanuel Onwubiko, maintained that Iran has no moral rights to criticise the panels investigating the incident especially as Iran allegedly has the most notorious human rights records globally.
HURIWA also maintained that it was unbecoming of the diplomat of Iran in this country to launch unwarranted media attacks on the sovereign nation of Nigeria and for attempting to railroad Nigeria into what measures to adopt to resolve her internal problems.
HURIWA consequently called on the Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister to take stern diplomatic measures to address the issue as well as check any subterranean plots the Iranian Ambassador may have hatched with his Nigerian affiliates to endanger Nigeria’s national security interest.
Noting that Iran had earlier described the continued incarceration of the leader of the Shiite Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, as illegal and unfair, HURIWA said Iran’s notoriety for human rights violations is unprecedented, which led the United Nations Human Rights Council to recently condemn the widespread abuses of human rights in the country.
