BRUSSELS – The President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, has postponed his trip to Iran, which was scheduled on Tuesday.
“Due to agenda reasons, my visit to #Iran foreseen for tomorrow has been postponed to a later date,” Schulz tweeted on Monday.
Schulz would have been the first President of the European Parliament to visit Iran following the nuclear deal signed last Jul. 15 in Vienna between Iran and the G5+1, which seeks to guarantee that Iran will not manufacture atomic weapons.
Organizations and personalities defending human rights and political prisoners in Iran have written separate letters to Mr. Schulz calling him to refrain from going to an Iran ruled by clerical fascism.
