Mohammad Mostafaii, Department of Justice lawyer, announced that during the past year, 191 individuals in Esfahan, whose crimes were drug possession, rape and stoning, requested amnesty from the ‘Amnesty Commission’ and as a result, the Amnesty Commission headed by Gholam Hossein Ansari agreed with the pardoning of 59 cases. It is scheduled for the other 132 prisoners to be executed in the upcoming weeks. According to reports, this number is aside from the prisoners sentences to retribution, whose amnesty depends on the victim’s family.
According to the remarks of Mostafaii, in order for the real number of executions to not be revealed outside the prison, in Esfahan they execute dozens of peoples every month and hand over their corps to their families.
Death sentences are not given upon fair trials and none of them have used the right to a judicial lawyer for their defense in the preliminary stages. Most of them, due to the inability to pay fees, used public defenders that the judicial system introduces to them.
