Hafez Salama to Ahmadinejad: If you like to cherish Egyptian Martyr’s families, stop supporting Assad
Asharq Al-Awsat, June 10, 2012 – Iran invited the families of the Egyptian January 25 revolution to visit Iran and cherish them. The sources said that the visit of martyr families was accomplished according to an invitation by Ahmadinejad. Sheikh Hafez Salama, a symbol of Egyptian revolution addressed Iranian regime president and said: If you like to cherish Egyptian martyr’s families, stop supporting Assad.
Experts say that Iran’s invitation of Egyptian martyr’s families is part of its eager efforts to normalize bilateral relation that has been cut off since 33 years ago.
Invitation of martyr’s families to Tehran was a controversial issue in Cairo and some of the families rejected the invitation and said there are doubts about Iran’s meddling in Egypt. They also reject the Iranian regime’s support of Bashar Assad.
Sheikh Salama was the leader of the resistance in Suez in 1956 during the Egypt-Israel war. He was a symbol of January 25 revolution and in his speech in Abbasieh mosque on Friday said: the revolutionaries succeeded to defeat the plot by Iranian charge d’affairs to Cairo who intended to deceive martyr’s families under the pretext of cherishing them in Tehran. He said that he had convinced most of the families no to take this trip. Since the oust of Mubarak in February, Iran has invited many Egyptian delegations the last of which was the delegation of university professors.
