
According to the statistics put out by the Director General of Women and Family Affairs affiliated to the Interior Ministry, women as young as 27 are added to the already growing trend of Army of Addicts.
“Lack of adequate recreation is the main reason behind drug addiction amongst women,” he said.
“One day drug addiction in our society was a problem amongst women and older women were only involved in recreational addiction. Today, however, drug addiction is no longer only a men’s issue in a way that between 9 to 11% of drug addicts are women,” Fahime Farahmandpour stipulated.
“The age of drug addiction amongst women has dropped under 27 and they are no longer involved in traditional addiction. They are now involved in industrial addiction and this is considered very dangerous,” she added.
“The damages caused by divorces across the country is very serious and alongside it is the rising number of single mothers,” she continued.
Referring to the fact that the highest number of single mothers are above the age of 50 she added, “This is while single fathers are mainly under the age of 35.”
Farahmandpour said the number of unemployed educated women is twice that of educated men, adding, “We have not been able to provide adequate planning for girls’ educational opportunities.”
