AFP, Berlin, Oct 13, 2009 – Iranian film-maker Narges Kalhor, daughter of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s media advisor Mehdi Kalhor, said Tuesday she had claimed asylum in Germany where she was attending a film festival.
’I was afraid there would be problems if I returned to my country, so yesterday (Monday) I applied for asylum, a day before my visa expired,’ Kalhor, 25, told AFP by phone from the southern German city of Nuremberg.
’I have had political problems with my father for some time. I have been living with my mother for a year and a half,’ she said.
Kalhor was presenting her short film ’The Rake’ — based on Franz Kafka’s short story ’In The Penal Colony’ — at Perspektive, the first German festival dedicated to human rights.
