The Hill – April 05, 2015- Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Sunday accused President Obama of trying to “circumvent” the Senate in his efforts to strike a nuclear deal with Iran.
“The Obama administration’s effort to end-run Congress and go to the U.N. is an effort that’s doomed to failure because the Constitution provides how law is made in this country,” Cruz said in an interview with John Catsimatidis on the New York radio show The Cats Roundtable.
Cruz, who sits on the Senate Committee on Armed Services, described the deal as “a historic mistake.” He echoed Netanyahu’s fears that lifting sanctions on Iran would pave the way for the country to acquire nuclear weapons.
“If it is a bad deal that undermines U.S. national security, I hope the Senate will reject the deal,” he said.
Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, including Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), made appearances on morning shows Sunday to declare support for the deal.
Several leaders in Congress, including House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) are now demanding to review the deal before the final negotiations are cemented in June.
