Appalling conditions in northeast Iranian prison

Humanitarian disaster is in the making at Vakil-Abad Prison in the city of Mashhad, northeast Iran, an exclusive report indicate.
The report reads in part: “Ward 6-1 is a killing-field. A large number of executions are carried out on a weekly basis in Vakil Abad. Prisoner’s limbs are amputated. Inmates are lashed before the eyes of other prisoners. This is repeated three times a day. During inspections the prison guards attack and severely beat the inmates. Prison officials are using the inmates as slaves and each have chosen their personal servants. New Year’s means solitary confinement or other forms of punishment for the prisoners. Early in the morning the prisoners are forced into the courtyard despite the cold weather or rain. At times the prisoners fall asleep as they suffer from sleep deprivation, and after some time they find themselves covered in snow.
Louse and bedbugs are running wild in this prison. Prisoners are always bitten by these insects and most of their bodies are full of small wounds. Showers are only available for 2 hours a day for 1,500 prisoners. The food is mostly comprised of livestock soya.
